Mucocele is a benign, mucus-containing cystic lesion of the minor salivary gland. This type of lesion is most commonly referred to as mucocele.
The more common is a mucus extravasation cyst; the other is a mucus retention cyst. Lip biting and trauma to the face or mouth are common causes.
The most frequent area to observe this type of reactive lesion corresponding to the minor salivary glands is the lower lip, 💡 most of the time we observe them very small and grow slowly, this phenomenon corresponds to the accumulation of saliva extravasated in a traumatic or obstructive way .
The surgical treatment 🔪 involves the excision through careful debridement with blunt instruments to locate: the mucosal plane & the glandular plane (they are observed as clusters) and reach the muscular plane ; Where the excision of the affected glands should be done.
